2026 veg boxes – maybe!

For us growers and farmers the new season really begins mid-winter. Market gardeners are busy reviewing the previous season, making plans for what to grow and how to sell it. By now many will be ordering seeds, making changes to infrastructure to improve their chances at having a successful year, invest in prepare new equipment and tools to make their operations more productive and efficient.

At Upper Ballaird Farm we are running a bit behind this year. We have not decided yet if we will be selling veg boxes directly to community members this year. But we are getting to decision time.

Last night the Members Committee and Philipp (the main veg grower at the farm) had a meeting speaking about our prospects for making it happen. It is still possible but time is moving quickly and we need to make a decision. The main concern is how many boxes we will be able to sell every week and how much volunteer support the members are able and willing to provide for making our small operation feasible.

To that end we are asking those interested in becoming members this year to visit us at the farm this Friday and Saturday (9th or 10th of January). We are running two open days between 11-15hs. Drop in any time, for as little or as long as you like. We are looking for people to show their committment to the farm. We will also be asking you some questions regarding:

  1. What would you like to eat (what should we grow)?
  2. What kind of box would you like (how often, what size)?
  3. How and where would you like to receive/collect your veg?
  4. What you value about the farm (what other aspects besides the veg are a priority for you)?
  5. How could you, or would you want to, be involved with the farm?

We hope to see you on Friday or Saturday.

P.S. There is a pin on Google Maps that gets you to us. Please drive slowly on the farm track.
