Growing your own fruit and vegetables provides the freshest, most nutritious food, harvested when flavours are at their best. This alone is reason enough to give it a try or keep going. Moreover, growing your own produce allows you to eat more seasonal food and align your life with natural rhythms. Every gardener pays attention to weather forecasts and rainfall, and some even consider lunar phases in their horticultural activities. Growing your own food requires engaging with natural processes.
In this workshop, we’ll look closely at these natural processes. We’ll discuss big-picture topics like carbon and nitrogen cycling and introduce soil as a living system. You’ll learn practical methods to avoid artificial fertilisers, plastics, herbicides, and pesticides. Additionally, we’ll explore ways to support native insect populations, along with the birds and amphibians that depend on them.
This workshop offers an introduction to growing fruit and vegetables in harmony with nature. It’s suitable for both beginners and experienced gardeners. However, if you are a beginner looking for a starting point, please note that this course does not focus on getting started. We offer another course specifically designed for that purpose, and everything we teach here aligns with nature.
If you are a CSA member then you will receive a 15% discount for the course. Please email us: upperballaird@farmcoop.scot to book into the course.
