Here you can see what is in your veg box in calendar week 30.
In this week’s box you will find…
salad bag
head of lettuce
stir fry bag
chard bag
lemon cucumber
spring onions
herbs
The are some new things in the box this week…
In your salad bag there are fresh salad leaves including a mix of butterhead, oakleaf and crisphead lettuces with edible flowers, such as nasturtiums and calendula. You will have a head of lettuce this week, this will either be “reine de glaces” or “red iceberg”. Reine de glaces is a crisphead lettuce with frilly toothed leaves and the red iceberg is mostly green with a blush of red on the leaves, both delicious!
The stir fry bag is made up of broccoli stems and leaves, red russian kale, a chili and aztec broccoli. Aztec broccoli (huauzontle), new to your box this week, has a taste similar to broccoli or spinach with a slightly nutty flavour.
The chard bag contains a colourful mix of chard called ‘fireworks’.
If you are wondering what the yellow ball in your box is, its a lemon cucumber. This round cucumber has a light sweet flavour. It’s delicious on its on but have heard rumours that it goes well with gin! There is a bunch of spring onions in your box this week. There is also a herb called “summer savoury”, this has a peppery taste, great for stews and roasting veg!
